Watermelons are a concentrated resource of antioxidants and amino acids, powerful nutrients that may help to reduce blood pressure (according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture). Watermelons are filled with many disease-fighting nutrients, including vitamins A and C, the amino acid citrulline and the antioxidant lycopene. Watermelons also even a good source of other important nutrients including potassium, vitamin B6 and fibre.

Watermelon's bright red colour is derived from lycopene, a powerful antioxidant associated with heart health, healthy arteries and blood flow. Watermelon has been found to contain the highest levels of lycopene.

Eating watermelon can boost your levels of nitric oxide within your body and can lower your blood pressure. Research by scientists at Florida State University in Tallahassee, American Journal of Hypertension in January 2011 reports, oral supplementation of citrulline changes to arginine in the body and that supplementation of arginine reduces blood pressure.

How Does Watermelon Work? The Science Behind The Secret...

How Does Watermelon Work? The Science Behind The Secret.....MelonMax™ as an antioxidant

MelonMax™ provides vitamins A, B and C which are all extremely powerful antioxidants. They minimise cell damage and strengthen the body's immunity by stabilising free radicals, thus helping to reduce damage to the body that could potentially cause illness and disease.

MelonMax™ to boost immunity

Vitamin C, contained in watermelon, is an antioxidant necessary for growth and development and to help boost the immune system. This vitamin is not produced naturally in the body and is not stored. It must be obtained through eating foods such as watermelon or supplements that contain vitamin C.

  • Vitamin C in watermelon can help to boost the immune system's defences against infection and viruses and can protect a body from harmful free radicals that can speed-up the rate of ageing and conditions such as cataracts.
  • Vitamin A found in watermelon is important for optimal eye health and boost immunity by improving the infection-fighting actions of white blood cells 'lymphocytes'.
  • Vitamin B6 helps the immune system to produce antibodies. Antibodies are required to fight many diseases.

Tomatoes have been highly advertised as a great source for lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that helps fight heart disease and several types of cancer, especially prostate cancer. But research has shown that it is Watermelon that has the highest concentration of lycopene of any fresh fruit or vegetable.

MelonMax™ to lower blood pressure and help sexual performance

MelonMax™ has one of the highest concentrations of Watermelon extract of any supplement on the market today. Watermelon contains citrulline. Dr.Bhimu Patil, Director of Texas A&M's Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center researched citrulline, believes it to have many health benefits. One of which is its ability to relax the blood vessels, much like drugs used to treat male sexual problems.

BhimuPatil, director of Texas A&M University's Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Centre states 'The fruit [watermelon] has a similar effect to taking Viagra'. Daily Mail Oct 2010.

When eaten, the citrulline boosts nitric oxide levels, which relaxes blood vessels and increases blood flow within the body. Though the cause of low male performance can include an assortment of psychological and physiological issues, an increase in blood flow may be able to help in some cases. Found in the flesh and rind of watermelons, citrulline reacts with the body's enzymes when consumed in large quantities and is changed into arginine. 'Arginine boosts nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels, the same basic effect that Viagra has, to treat erectile dysfunction and maybe even prevent it.' Daily Mail, Oct 2010.

Todd Wehner, at North Carolina State University, said 'Watermelon may not be as organ-specific as Viagra, but it's a great way to relax blood vessels without any drug side effects… It sounds like it would be an effect that would be interesting but not a substitute for any medical treatment.' Daily Mail, Oct 2010.

Reduced Risk Of Poor Sexual Performance

According to research performed by scientists at Shiga University of Medical Science in Otsu, Japan and published in 'Pharmacology and Therapeutics' in May 2005 impaired production and action of nitric oxide, associated with a shortage of arginine, can cause difficulties for men. Eating watermelon could improve penile vascular blood flow and thus improve sexual performance. Those who increased dietary intake of citrulline, a precursor to arginine and nitric oxide, increased erection hardness and mean number of sexual intercourses per month compared with patients who took a placebo, according to research by scientists at the University of Foggia in Italy and published in 'Urology' in January 2011.

Recent Studies show that Watermelon helps lower blood pressure

The Nitric oxide in Watermelon could also help with high blood pressure and other cardiovascular problems, according to the Texas study, which was paid for by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

In a study performed at The Florida State University, Professor Bahram H. Arjmandi found in giving watermelon extract to nine subjects for six weeks, each showed lower blood pressure at the end of the study. The citrulline allows blood flow to become increased within in the body.

'We are the first to document improved aortic hemodynamics in pre-hypertensive but otherwise healthy middle-aged men and women receiving therapeutic doses of watermelon,' said Dr. Arturo Figueroa, lead researcher of the new study. 'These findings suggest that this 'functional food' has a vasodilatory effect, and one that may prevent prehypertension from progressing to full-blown hypertension, a major risk factor for heart attacks and strokes,' added Figueroa.

Dr Arturo Figueroa, of Florida State University, said: 'These findings suggest that this 'functional food' has a vasodilatory effect, and one that may prevent pre-hypertension from progressing to full-blown hypertension, a major risk factor for heart attacks and strokes.' Daily Mail Oct 14th 2010.

Co-researcher Professor BahramArjmandi said: 'By functional foods, we mean those foods scientifically shown to have health-promoting or disease-preventing properties, above and beyond the other intrinsically healthy nutrients they also supply.' Daily Mail Oct 14th 2010.

According to the study, watermelon is the most plentiful edible natural source of L-citrulline and a great source of natural antioxidants vitamins A, B6 and C, as well as potassium and lycopene.

Is MelonMax™ right for me?

The main ingredient of MelonMax™ is Watermelon extract, a powerful antioxidant. It is suggested that by taking a watermelon supplement daily, instead of eating one and a half watermelons a day (to get the recommended daily allowance) you will feel the health benefits.

MelonMax™ is made up of 100% natural ingredients and are without question (it would seem) the best way to take advantage of the benefits of Watermelon.
AbsorbMax™ Clinically proven to enhance the absorption rate of MelonMax™AbsorbMax™ Clinically proven to enhance the absorption rate of MelonMax™

Clinical Studies....The Science behind AbsorbMax™AbsorbMax™ has been clinically proven to significantly enhances the absorption rate of MelonMax's™ nutrients into the body.

To believe the more you consume nutrients, the more the body will use is not always true. Some nutrients taken at a higher dose may actually counteract the benefit and will not be absorbed by the body. If the nutrients are in the right place at the right time in the digestive tract then the supplemented nutrient absorption is enhanced.

AbsorbMax™ increases the bioavailability of nutritional compounds, meaning AbsorbMax™ provides a more effective method of nutrient transportation within the body, as the nutrients are absorbed much more rapidly into the bloodstream than in other competitor supplements.

Clinical Studies....The Science behind AbsorbMax™

AbsorbMax™ contains BioPerine. The subtle, yet potent properties of BioPerine have been measured in several clinical studies. These studies measured the absorption of three distinct categories of products. The categories evaluated with and without BioPerine were fat-soluble (beta-carotene), water-soluble (vitamin B6) and a mineral (selenium, in the form of selenomethionine).

Gastrointestinal absorption of all the studied nutrients, as measured by amounts present in the blood, increased dramatically when administered with BioPerine as compared to the control group receiving the nutrient alone. Selenium levels increased by 30%, beta-carotene increased by 60%, and the vitamin B6 increase was slightly higher than beta-carotene. All studies used BioPerine in the amount of 5 mg per dose.

'A dose of watermelon a day could help keep high blood pressure at bay. Researchers have discovered that the fruit is rich in compounds that widen blood vessels - and may cut the risk of heart attacks and strokes. And a daily fix of its juices could be enough to lower blood pressure in patients suffering from hypertension, according to a study.'

The Cures From Paradise - 20th March 2012

Originating in tropical Africa where it grows wild, the watermelon is related to the cantaloupe, squash, pumpkin and other plants which grow on vines on the ground.

Watermelons are an excellent source of potassium and vitamin C and have lots of other benefits making them one of the healthiest fruits around.

They contain a high concentration of beta-carotenes. These are a group of healthy, natural chemicals which are converted into vitamin A.

Although the flesh of the watermelon is about 92 per cent water (also making it a great thirst quencher) the remaining eight percent has the highest concentration of lycopene found in any fresh fruit or vegetable.

Lycopene is also found in tomatoes and is what gives the watermelon its bright pink colour. It may protect against some cancers including those of the prostate, lungand stomach.

Other research suggests lycopene may protect against macular degenerative disease, an age-related illness that can lead to blindness.

If you are watching your weight the watermelon's high water content means it is relatively low in calories.
